For what purposes may grants be used?

Grants to schools will be for the provision of special benefits such as playground equipment, library books, musical instruments or school journeys.

Grants will not be given for building maintenance or staff costs.

Which schools may apply?
Community or voluntary schools or academies or free schools within the meaning of the Education Acts 1944 to 2011, situated either in the London Borough of Camden or the City of Westminster.

May grants be used to replace textbooks or furniture?
No. Foundation grants are not intended for equipment, buildings or staff costs that are covered by the core/delegated school budget funding. For example, a grant might be approved for library books, but not for teaching textbooks.

May a school apply for more than one grant?
A school may submit more than one application, but will receive at most one grant in a school year.

For what purposes may grants be used?
Grants can be made to support individuals in undertaking further or higher education, attending schools of art, music, dancing or drama, travelling for educational purposes or preparing for a profession, trade, occupation or service. Apprenticeships will be considered.

Who may apply for a grant?
Student applicants must:

  • be under 26 years of age at the start of the period to which the grant relates and
  • be attending or have attended a secondary school in the London Borough of Camden or the City of Westminster.
I am a student at a college in Westminster or Camden. May I apply for a grant?
Only if you attended a secondary school in the City of Westminster or London Borough of Camden.

May I apply for more than one grant?
If you are a pupil or former pupil at a secondary school in the City of Westminster or London Borough of Camden you may apply for a grant for each academic year of your course, provided that you are under 26 years old at the start of the academic year. You will need to submit a separate application for each year of your course.

My place of study is not in Westminster or Camden. May I apply for a grant?
If you are under 26 years of age and a former pupil at a secondary school in the City of Westminster or London Borough of Camden, you may apply for a grant.

I have a grant for the current academic year of my course, but became 26 years old during this year. Am I eligible to apply for a grant for the next academic year?
No

I have not taken out a student loan. May I apply for a grant?
Grants will not be given to applicants who have declined a loan under the official government loan scheme. If you have received a loan which is less than the full amount you will be asked to explain why.
